Making a Reservation for
your guided day on the McCloud River
Our guide staff is among the best in the
industry, and our guide and Private Waters management team
will work hard to make sure that you’re placed with the right
guide for your specific needs. We've been putting together guided
fishing trips for three decades, and have the experience to coordinate
a memorable day on the water for just about any group. Over the
years, we’ve developed a few guidelines to help ensure that
your trip is as successful as possible.
We can work with you to select a guide that's
matched to your skills, interests, their specialty or, perhaps,
the equipment involved. Some of our guides are more instruction-oriented
than others and are better suited for the novice wanting to combine
a day of guided fishing with a learning experience, while others
just plain know how to catch fish.
If you have a specific request or have been
with us before, we can help reserve guide dates with one
of your favorite guides based on that guide’s specific availability.
If not, we’re happy to hook you up with one of several of
our guides who specialize on our Northern California freestone streams.
Full Day Trips
We only offer full day walk and wade trips
on the McCloud River. The time and effort necessary to get
down into the McCloud River canyon compels the dedication of a full
fishing day. Full-day trips include eight to nine hours of fishing
time, and the start times can be adjusted whenever possible to have
you on the water during the most productive times of the day. Our
full day walk and wade trips on the McCloud River are a popular
option for getting an introduction to the river before an extended
trip to the region.
Guides are a very effective way to learn
the nuances, geography, and accelerate the learning curve necessary
to be successful on the McCloud. In fact, we highly recommend
that both entry level and experienced fly rodders take advantage
of at least a day with one of our experienced guides on the river
to familiarize themselves with the techniques and terrain before
spreading their wings and attempting to fish the river on their
own.
Multi-Day Trips
It’s easy to schedule a multi-day
guided trip combining several different fly fishing destinations.
One of the truly remarkable aspects to our northern California region
is the incredible diversity in angling opportunities. Within a comfortable
drive from our home base here in Redding, we have access to seven
phenomenal trout streams and rivers, four steelhead destinations,
and countless lakes, small streams, and bass ponds.
The McCloud is within easy striking distance of the Upper
Sacramento, Pit
River, Fall
River, and Hat
Creek, and it’s a simple matter to schedule a multi-day
guided trip combining two or more of these fine trout streams. There
are several wonderful lakes in the region, and a guided trip on
the McCloud can be easily married on the front or back end of a
visit to one of our nearby Private
Waters destination
Two of our most popular Private Waters destinations
are within an hour of the McCloud. Antelope
Creek Ranch and Riverside
on Fall River both offer very different experiences that are
wonderful complements to a guided McCloud River trip.
Finally, our most popular guided destination,
The
Lower Sacramento River is approximately an hour and a half from
the heart of the McCloud, and anglers often end their day of fishing
on the Sacramento and continue to either Mt. Shasta or McCloud to
spend the night afterward, meet their guide the next morning and
continue on to the McCloud River for a day of wade fishing for wild
rainbows and brown trout.
Our guides can fish just about anywhere,
and we often arrange a flexible schedule, determining the
final itinerary just prior to the trip based on up-to-the-minute
stream and fishing conditions, further guaranteeing that you’ll
end up in the right place at the right time.
Guided Fishing Days Include:
- Lunch is provided on full
day trips. Please give us a call if you have special dietary
needs. Guides always carry a full cooler with plenty of water
and soft drinks.
- Guides do not typically
provide the tippet and flies for your trip. If you are
just getting started in the sport, or will be traveling and don’t
want to hassle with dragging along all of your gear, you may want
to consider our guide trip “Package Deal.” This inclusive
option is only an additional $50 per day, and with it the guides
will provide the necessary rods, reels, flies, tackle and equipment
to ensure that you have the right gear and flies for the day.
If you're an experienced angler and/or fly tier, call ahead and
we'll let you know exactly what flies are producing so you can
be sure to tie them beforehand or bring them along. Many of our
guided trips on the McCloud begin by meeting your guide here at
The Fly Shop, so guides can always recommend exactly the flies
that are working for them on the morning of the trip, too.
- We do not provide waders or boots for
guided trips. Breathable waders and
felt or studded wading boots are recommended for wading on the
McCloud River throughout the season. Even during the hot summer
months, the McCloud’s shaded canyon waters remain cold,
making waders a good idea.
Making a reservation
To make a reservation,
please give us a call at 800-669-3474 during business hours
any day of the week. We can give you the answers you need or the
detailed explanations to questions you might have, or check on guide
availability and confirm your guide reservation in minutes.
If you prefer to correspond
on-line simply e-mail us at info@adventuresinflyfishing.com
and we will respond promptly.
- Season... Last Saturday
in April through November 15.
- Species... Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout
- Fee... $360 for 2 anglers, or $410 for the
inclusive “Package Deal” (described above).
- Occupancy... 2 Anglers maximum
per guide.
We do not recommend it, but we can occasionally accommodate 3
anglers. We never recommend fishing 3 anglers to a guide on wade
trips, as there is simply no way that the guide can give 3 different
anglers enough time to guarantee a positive experience for all.
If everyone in the group is an experienced angler and you’re
mainly looking for help finding river accesses, it may work. But
it is never a good idea for 3 novice anglers. There is an additional
$75 fee for a 3rd angler.
- Includes... 8-10 hours of guided wade fishing
with lunch provided.
