It takes one & 1/2 hours
to drive to the ranch from Redding. If you travel by private
plane you can fly into Fall River Mills and you will be only 10 minutes
from Riverside. Vehicle rentals are available through the airport.
Guests are asked to time their
arrival for the late afternoon (3:30 P.M. or later). There
usually will be no one at the house to check you in, although the
housekeeper may still be finishing up cleaning from the group before.
In a perfect world departing and arriving groups will not see each
other.
Departing groups are asked
to move their belongings out of the bedrooms and kitchen before they
start the day's fishing. The housekeeper will be arriving
at 11:00 AM to start the cleaning process, which usually takes about
4 hours. We ask that you depart by 3:00 PM therefore avoiding any
overlapping of groups. In this process it is important that the
boats be back at the dock by at least 3:00 PM so that the caretaker
can clean them up and get the batteries on the chargers.
Riverside is located roughly
in the middle of the area most anglers fish on Fall River. The
gas motors allow you to get to each end of this section of the river.
The important thing to remember is to always fill the gas tank on
the top of the motor and the extra gas can each time you go fishing.
Also, make sure you have a fresh battery on board. There are several
details about battery care and you will find all that in the information
packet mailed to you after we receive your deposit. This information
can make the difference in you having a great experience at Riverside
or a trying one. Read the motor directions carefully before operating them!
Non-fishing companions will not only
be able to enjoy the house, deck and
Jacuzzi, but there are some great sight-seeing venues just minutes
away. Burney
Falls State Park is a must and many of our non angling guests
have enjoyed a drive south on Hwy 89 to the Radio Astronomy Observatory
and the Subway Caves. Some have packed a lunch and taken the hour
drive to Lassen
National Park. If you are a bird watcher and or a photographer
you will quickly find that the Fall River Valley is one of best
places anywhere to ply those avocations.
A few points to remember:
The elevation of this ranch
is too high for poison oak and poisonous snakes. The lodge
is a non-smoking facility and guests are welcome to enjoy cigars
or cigarettes on the deck or anywhere outside.
